We Share One Earth
We speak different languages.
We follow different traditions.
We live under different governments
and we do not always share the same beliefs.
Yet beneath all of those differences,
we are members of one human family.

And we share responsibility for what we leave behind.
Around the world, humanity faces challenges
that do not stop at national borders.
Climate change, wildfires, floods and extreme weather
can affect communities regardless of nationality or politics.
Disease does not require a passport.
Hunger and poverty do not recognize borders.
Homelessness can touch families anywhere.
And war continues to ask ordinary men and women
to leave their families, put on a uniform and sometimes
make the ultimate sacrifice.
Remember Something Very Simple
Soldiers throughout history have worn different uniforms.
They have carried different flags.
They have spoken different languages.
They have sometimes been ordered to stand
on opposite sides of a battlefield.
Yet beneath those uniforms were human beings.
Sons and daughters.
Mothers and fathers.
Brothers and sisters.
Friends and neighbours.
People who wanted to return home.
People who wanted their children to be safe.
People who hoped that someday there would be peace.
What greater way could there be to honour all soldiers,
past and present, than to work toward the peaceful world
so many of them hoped to see?
